HPVHA was established in 1987 and was completely functional from 1990 in Himachal Pradesh. HPVHA went for new initiatives for the first time in H.P. and mobilized the voluntary sector. Domestic violence and matters like single women, legal rights of women are also the concerns of HPVHA and it made many efforts in this regard by organizing
Initiatives regarding Disaster Management for the first time.
Himachal Pradesh Voluntary Health Association (HPVHA) is the federation of 35 leading NGOs of the state and is the state chapter of Voluntary Health Association of India (VHAI). HPVHA is working on health & development issues in the state since 1987. The objective of the organization is "Making Health a Reality for the people of Himachal Pradesh".
Major Achievement of the organization:
HPVHA became the first mother NGO of the state appointed by Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Government of India after successful implementation of RCH activities in remote and tribal district i.e. Lahaul & Spiti in 2000-2001. Since then, mother NGO programme on RCH is ongoing in the state.
Because of advocacy on important social concerns, HPVHA has become part of about 15 government Committees to provide policy inputs.
Because of analysis of research like Community Need Assessment Analysis done by us, the government has made few changes in its programme and policies with regard to health.
Other Major Achievements

Based on the interventions of HPVHA in disability sector, for the first time questionnaire on disability was attached with the census 2001 questionnaire. It has initiated intervention in form of physiotherapy and occupational therapy unit in the state.HPVHA raised the issue of child and adolescent rights and the first childline was sanctioned in the state to the organization by the Ministry of Child and Women Development.As a result of our constant efforts, with regard to policy advocacy Tobacco Control Act, 2003 was amended in the state, efforts initiated for effective implementation and the state and district steering committees were formed.
Our first collaboration with Rural Development Department on sanitation issues resulted in GO-NGO partnership on the same throughout the state. HPVHA has the potential and specialization to develop various IEC materials in the form of magazine, leaflets, posters etc. on health and developmental issues. HPVHA is first in the state to implement various grassroot level developmental activities besides social activism. In this context we initiated a health center to provide curative services in the form of NGO corporate partnership. HPVHA has made a strong base throughout the state with 8 field offices and one own 3 stories head office in Shimla with 300 manpower.
HPVHA associates with different organisation for the welfare of the people of Himachal Pradesh.
